Where it all began

Victor O’Brien was born in York Region, became enamored with criminal defense lawyers from a very early age, and started working for Toronto’s best-known criminal defense lawyers at the ripe age of 18. By this time, Victor had already clerked for a criminal court judge, and found work with an innocence project reviewing criminal cases for wrongful convictions. In 2018, Victor launched a national student defence firm at McGill University, called Student Defenders, where he defended students disciplined for everything from plagiarism to protesting. At age 21, Victor found work with Canada’s most famous criminal defence lawyer, Eddie Greenspan, who he studied under for 14 months before enrolling in Law School.

Training and legal education

Victor graduated with a Law Degree from the University of London in the London, England, where he watched criminal cases at the Old Bailey for 2 years. He completed his articles of clerkship with a busy Immigration Firm in Toronto in 2020, where he fought refugee cases involving criminal inadmissibility issues, and conducted Detention Review Hearings for migrants inside supermax jails. From 2020-2021, Victor worked for a Civil Litigation firm in Toronto, where he worked on cases involving Defamation, Personal Injury, Breach of Contract, Injunctions, and Criminal Fraud. In 2021, Victor joined York Region’s busiest Criminal Defense Firm, where he rose the ranks as a highly skilled and much respected Associate.

Criminal Defense experience

Victor has handled virtually every type of criminal defense case, involving virtually every type of offence, for adults and youth offenders. He has conducted, and been involved, in Bail Hearings, Bail Reviews, Detention Reviews, Guilty Plea Hearings, Resolutions, Peace Bond Hearings, Preliminary Inquiries, Trials, Sentencing Hearings, and Appeals. Victor has defended charges of Fraud, Theft, Assault, Robbery, Mischief, Failure to Stop/Remain, Harassment and Utter Threats, Impaired Driving and Over80, Dangerous Driving, Drive while Prohibited, Break and Enter, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Sexual Offences, Drug Offences, and Firearm Offences. Victor has also defended Professional Discipline cases, Human Rights cases, Employment cases, and cases involving Immigration Consequences.
